¿Original or Fake?

Ivy G.

"Stradivarius"...., what does it sound like? Violinists know exactly what it's all about. They are stringed instruments (mostly violins) known to be the best in the world. Some can cost millions of dollars.

Manufactured by a very famous luthier, Antonio Stradivari, who lived in Cremona, Italy, around 1700. They have a unique sound that is believed, among other things, to have been due to a mixture of mineral compounds that he applied before the varnish, which caused the wood to crystallize partially resulting in a less porous soundboard and a louder sound.

Any violinist dreams of one day having a chance to play one, or even see it. Many are in museums or in the hands of very prestigious collectors. And for this reason, there are many copies of these instruments, some copies so good that only experts know how to spot the difference between an “original” and a “fake”.

We could also talk about watches from incredibly famous brands. Because they are very precise and have a lot of details, many are willing to pay a good sum of money to get them. And while factories strive to put hard-to-imitate features on them, there are always copies of these watches circulating on the market. Some of them so good that only experts can detect when it comes to "fakes" and not "originals".

Famous artworks or paintings are also counterfeited. It is so profitable to make "fakes" of anything, that there is a whole great industry dedicated to making "fakes" of famous brands in the world, that's because many people want to acquire even a "fake" of the "originals".

Did you know that every human being is an "original" of God's hands? We were formed with great love and detail by the hands of a Creator (Ps. 139:13-16). Each person has traits and characteristics that identify and differentiate them from others. No human being in the world is equal to another, nor are identical twins equal in everything; they always have more than one different feature from the other.

A remarkably interesting feature we have is our fingerprints. A unique trait in every human being, they are defined in week 19 of gestation and remain unchanged throughout their lives. They are so unique that they are used to identify people in different ways, in robberies, suicides, or now even in technology systems to be able to access somewhere.

Don't you think, that it is sad that even though we’ve been created as "originals" we want to live our lives as "fakes"?, It is impressive how technology, advertising, the internet, social networks, etc. bombard us every day with images and profiles of people that we come to "admire" and therefore to "copy". Unconsciously we spend our lives wanting to be "cheap fakes” of some other "original" thinking that we will be better if we act, dress, talk, and even think like someone else. Maybe it's because of the sense of wanting to be accepted and appreciated. Let's not be fooled...

Today I want to encourage you to live your life thanking God for making you unique, "original". There's no other person in the world like you. God made you unique. He made you with physical traits, talents, and "original" virtues.

Live like an original and you'll be happier. Find out how to use your talents and skills to please God and your life will have a special purpose.
